FmocFF nanotube undergoing syneresis
FmocFF is known to form nanotubes at ca. pH 4-7 which undergo syneresis (collapse by squeezing water out, like old yoghurt) at elevated pH. We simulated this using constant pH molecular dynamics; the beads show green (deprotonated) and red (protonated) C-termini of FmocFF. The presence of Fmoc and the 3D structure cause the apparent pKa of the C-termini to shift substantially.
